The vast majority of relocatees are not in the suburbs, but in the city of Chicago in the following communities: South Shore, Roseland, and Englewood. In fact, CHA voucher holders make up 15% of rental units in Englewood alone. Residents are also provided relocation services through the Chicago Housing Choice Voucher program which provides heavily subsidized vouchers for lease compliant residents to move to a high opportunity low-crime diverse area of the city. Many residents CHOOSE to live in the areas mentioned due to their desire to remain close to the familiar: family, friends, schools, and services that they are familiar with. -- Anonymous ReaderI question how effectively this program will work and leave open any other news I have more than likely missed regarding what immediate housing solutions will be made for the many squatters residing in these buildings.
